Action and being verbs!

We have been learning about action and being verbs this week. This will help us in writing accurate sentences.

We listened to this song and enjoyed singing along. This is helping us to remember what action and being verbs are.

Reading for Pleasure Day!

We had our first Reading for Pleasure day today and really enjoyed sharing books together.

We added our favourite books to our Reading Jungle display. The children spoke of a range of different stories which was lovely to hear!

We also listened to some old World Book Day songs and had a go at spotting the different books in the song.

We also made our own Reading rivers of books we’ve enjoyed reading so far. I wonder how they will be different at the end of Year 2?

Independence Time!

We have really enjoyed welcoming our families into our classroom this week! On a Monday parents can join us from 8:45 – 9:10am as we will be introducing the challenges that you can do in this time during the week. From Tuesday – Friday, parents can stay from 8:45 – 9:00am. We do ask parents to stay in the classroom and let children to put their things in their locker on their own.

Thank you to all the parents who joined us this week – we can’t wait to see you again next week and for the rest of the year 🙂

Common and Proper Nouns

We have had a great week learning about common and proper nouns and have used these great video from Grammarsarus to help us. All of the teachers received great training from Grammarsaurus on our Inset Day last week and we’ve been enjoying using these resources to help ensure we understand the basics of sentence construction before we move on.

Common Nouns

We are recapping our previous learning on nouns. Today we have focused on common nouns. We labelled the common nouns around our classroom. We really enjoyed doing this! A common noun refers to a general person, place or thing. Making sure we really understood what is (and isn’t) a noun will really help us when we are writing sentences and then much longer pieces of writing.

Big Books!

In 2SC, we love reading! We have already started adding books to our wonderful class reading river that is documenting our reading in Year 2. Today, we found the wonderful big books that are brilliant for sharing stories with friends! What is your favourite book? Share your favourite books in the comments below!

What are the four countries in the UK?

We have been brilliant geographers today and have learnt that our country, the United Kingdom, is made up of four countries. We’ve used our atlases to learn the names of the four countries and locate them.

The United Kingdom is made up of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Can you locate them on this map?
